An angiogram, also known as an arteriogram or angiography, is a medical procedure that uses X-ray imaging to visualize the blood vessels in various parts of the body. It is commonly performed to diagnose and evaluate conditions affecting the arteries and veins, particularly those related to the heart and blood vessels of the brain, neck, kidneys, and legs. Here's an overview of the angiogram procedure: Preparation: Before the procedure, you will be given instructions to follow, such as fasting for a specific period. You may be asked to stop taking certain medications that could interfere with the test. An intravenous (IV) line will be inserted into a vein in your arm to administer medications and contrast dye during the procedure. Local anesthesia: In most cases, a local anesthetic is used to numb the area where the catheter (a thin, flexible tube) will be inserted. Catheter insertion: A small incision is made, usually in the groin or wrist, and the catheter is carefully threaded through the blood vessels to the area of interest.
